Annecy climate at a glance

Annecy sits at the foot of the Alps, and its weather changes with the seasons. July and August are the warmest months. Winters are cold, with average lows below freezing from December to February. Rain falls in all twelve months, so even a summer trip needs a light waterproof layer.

The figures below come from the Météo-France station at Meythet, at 455 m. They are long-term monthly means, not a forecast and not a measurement for 2026. The sheet is titled 1991–2020, and the means shown were calculated for 1992–2020. They do not describe conditions on the high ground of the Semnoz.

Best time to visit by activity

There is no single best month. It depends on what you want to do.

Swimming and beach days: July and August

These months have the highest daily maxima, at 26.5 °C and 26.1 °C. The Impérial beach is supervised and charges an entry fee from 4 July to 31 August 2026, 10:00 to 19:00. Marquisats has lifeguards from 11:00 to 19:00 in the same period. See the beaches page for fees and rules.

Lake cruises: March to November

The cruise operator lists a season from 1 March to 30 November. Because of low water, the promenade cruises have left from Sevrier instead of Annecy since 23 September 2026. Check the departure port before you go.

Gorges du Fier: mid-March to mid-October

The 2026 season ran from 15 March to 15 October, so the gorge is closed for the winter. Plan a visit for spring through early autumn.

Paragliding: April to October

The tandem offer described on the paragliding page runs from April to October. Wind and visibility decide on the day.

Old town and museums: all year

The old town market runs on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday from 7:00 to 13:00 all year. The museums open from 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 17:30 from October to May, and from 10:30 to 18:00 from June to September. They close on Tuesdays. See the old town page.

Château de Menthon: spring to autumn

In the calendar currently published, the castle opens daily from 10:00 to 19:00 in July and August. In April, May, June, September and October it opens Friday to Sunday and on holidays from 13:00 to 18:00, with extra daily openings from 3 April to 3 May and from 17 October to 1 November.

Water temperature

A lake tourism listing showed 17 °C in a water widget on 19 October 2026. That is one dated reading from one listing, not the temperature of the whole lake. Check the current reading before you swim.

The lake level can also change. Low water in autumn 2026 moved the cruise departures to Sevrier. The supervised season at the Impérial and Marquisats beaches ends on 31 August.

Autumn and winter notes

Autumn cools quickly. Mean highs are 21.3 °C in September and 16.3 °C in October, then 10.0 °C in November. Rain averages about 108 to 110 mm a month from September to November. In autumn 2026 the east shore road and cycle path are closed from 14 September to 18 December, and the west shore Voie verte has works too. Both are described on the Lake Annecy page.

Winter highs stay near 5.6 °C to 7.6 °C, and the lows sit below zero. Dress in layers. Museums are closed on 25 December, 1 January and other public holidays.
